Hakim – Valet will ich dir geben
Bernstein was one of the most prolific composers of the 20th Century, best known for musicals such as West Side Story. The Chichester Psalms is one of his greatest works, set for harp, percussion and organ accompaniment. It pairs naturally with the similarly scored and equally beautiful work by Janáček, Otche Nash (The Lord’s Prayer), and the incredibly powerful Requiem by Duruflé.
In a first for Armonico Consort, the choir will be joined by Warwick School Choir to give the first concert performance of Valet will ich dir geben, a new composition by Naji Hakim commissioned in memory of Adrian Quayle. As a world-famous exponent of the art, Hakim will also perform an improvisation on the hymn Pange Lingua (Sing My Tongue the Glorious Battle).
"Naji Hakim's variations on the chorale Valet will ich dir geben were commissioned in memory of Adrian Quayle, physicist and musician, who died tragically at the age of 28. He was educated at Warwick School and was a former choirboy at The Collegiate Church of St Mary and organist of Sherbourne Church." (Anthony and Jennifer Quayle)
