RAH Diary, 26 January 2018, Gaynor Larkin – Head of Education

2018 is a landmark year for Armonico Consort and our nationwide singing education programme, AC Academy as it marks the 10-year anniversary of our unique Choir Creation scheme across the UK!

As we work towards our goal of creating 300 choirs and training 300 teachers as choir leaders by 2020, we have invited 52 of our Choir Creation schools to take part in what promises to be a very special concert for over 2,000 children at the spectacular Royal Albert Hall in London, on Monday 26th March. They will be performing songs from all genres of music history alongside internationally renowned musicians and a band of West End players. So an exciting and very unique experience for everyone!

Added to this will be a performance from two Telford SEN schools as part of our UNIQUELY programme, run by William Carslake and Patrick Stockbridge. They will work with children with moderate and profound learning difficulties to create and perform a brand new song on the stage that night, arranged for the West End Band, and with a chorus for the 2000 children. There will also be a special part written for the 3500 audience members which means at one point, there will over 5000 people performing a piece which has been created by these incredibly special, talented and creative young people!

Finally, we will have a special celebrity guest…. but look out for more of these blogs to find out who this will be.

See you at the Royal Albert Hall!

Gaynor Larkin
