If you are new to the Vespers, think of his divine Symphony no 2, but performed by voices, and you won’t even get close to how incredible this is! Just 110 years ago, what is widely praised as Rachmaninov’s greatest achievement and the greatest achievement of the Russian Orthodox Church was created. The composer managed to find a way of turning the choir into an orchestra, both texturally and dynamically. The music was so personal to Rachmaninov, that he requested the ‘Nunc Dimitis’, the fifth movement be sung at his funeral.
In the exquisite late evening candlelit setting, be transported by what is simply the most gorgeous choral music ever to have been written, and for a moment in time, simply nothing else in life will matter.
Warwick performance is generously by an original of St Mary’s Scholars and Armonico Consort, and a generous volunteer to the charity.
