A MESSAGE FROM CHRISTOPHER MONKS ABOUT OUR 25TH ANNIVERSARY CONCERT!
My musical journey started with Monteverdi and the Venetian Schools. That has inspired so much of what we have gone on to develop at Armonico Consort and has never ceased to inspire me and our musicians.
The sharp eyed will notice that within the programme I have placed a huge polychoral work by Francisco Valls, a Catalan composer. The reason is simple – the influence of the Venetian composers across Europe was staggering during the renaissance and baroque. Composers would travel for months to share and sell their music.
For those who have loved the cinema sound effects of our polychoral performances from ‘Spem in Alium’ in 40 parts surrounding the audience, to the effervescent drama of the Francesco Scarlatti 16 part works, this is all of that, plus more. We will be working with special guest choirs around the UK in celebration of our momentous milestone.
Programme Highlights to include:
- Monteverdi – Lauda Jerusalem (from Vespers of 1610)
- Valls – Missa Scala Aretina a 16
