One of the greatest concertos ever written, the colourful brilliance of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons is a testament to how it has stood the test of time. Comprising of four separate violin concertos, each of which is based around a poem depicting each season, the vibrant melodies and virtuosity of The Four Seasons have made it one of the most exciting pieces of music to see and hear live.
Armonico Consort’s Baroque players will be joined by international Violinist Jennifer Pike who will also guest direct this performance. Renowned for her unique artistry and compelling insight into music from the Baroque to the present day, Jennifer has firmly established herself as one of today’s most exciting instrumentalists.
Opening the concert, Soprano Eloise Irving, and Countertenor Edward Button (from The King’s Singers) will bring to life Pergolesi’s extraordinary masterpiece Stabat Mater. This piece is one of Pergolesi’s most celebrated sacredworks, composed in the final weeks of his life it offers a very personal response to the religious experience and is an astonishing work from a composer who died at such a tragically young age.
