Associate Artistic Director – Geoffrey Webber

Geoffrey Webber has been involved with Armonico Consort since 2010, when the first collaboration took place between the Consort and The Choir of Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge. Christopher Monks had studied at Gonville & Caius College, where Geoffrey Webber was then the Director of Music. Geoffrey himself had studied Music at the University of Oxford, where he was Organ Scholar of New College and later Assisting Organist at Magdalen College and University Organist. His research interest is in baroque music, especially German and English repertoire, and he has always enjoyed combining his interests in both the academic and practical sides of music. From 1989-2019 he worked in Cambridge not only directing the Caius choir but also teaching for the Faculty of Music, and from 2011-19 he served as Course Principal and Director for the MMus degree in Choral Conducting which he helped establish. With the Caius choir he undertook many tours and made many highly acclaimed recordings (mainly on the ASV and Delphian labels), and one of his final recordings with the choir was the ‘Supersize Polyphony’ CD with Armonico Consort. He now works freelance, and his activities include being General Editor of the Church Music Society and Organist of Hampstead Parish Church in London.
