Francesco Scarlatti: Dixit Dominus & Mass

Release date: 14th April 2023
Label: Signum SIGCD658

Their tenth album with Signum Classics, Armonico Consort directed by Christopher Monks return with two works by the ‘Forgotten Scarlatti’.  Francesco Scarlatti (1666-c1741) was overshadowed by his much more famous brother Alessandro and nephew Domenico. This recording has been made using new editions of the works by Dr Geoffrey Webber, from the original scores held at the Bodleian Library, Oxford University, (made especially for this recording) that follow only the autograph scores.

On a recording that features quite possibly the CLASSICAL MUSIC FIND OF THE CENTURY, Armonico Consort sets to disc two of the major and spectacular works by Francesco Scarlatti. The Dixit Dominus and Mass are written in 16 independent lines, with four choirs of four voices. In music which draws inspiration from the colossal polychoral compositions of Baroque Venice, to the awesome writing heard in Tallis’s 40 part Spem in Alium, these totally unique works are certainly not to be missed.
